Help: Copyright and permissions
Welcome to the page which will assist if you have enquiries on copyright matters or need more information on reproducing IOP journal material.
Copyright
IOP's copyright policy relating to its journal material is enshrined in the Assignment of Copyright document with which authors become familiar when submitting their articles to any of our journals.
Some IOP journals published on behalf of other bodies or the 'Open access' journals make use of different forms, but you will be notified of this when submitting your article.
Permissions
If you wish to seek permission from IOP for the use of material from IOP journals in your research paper or monograph/book then please send as much information as you can to permissions@iop.org.
Alternatively you could complete the Permission request form on our website and send this to the same mailbox.
We will aim to respond to you within three working days of receipt.
Authors preparing their articles for submission to IOP journals may wish to include material (such as figures and tables) from the previously published work of other authors. Before doing this you will need to seek approval from the author and publisher. The Permission request form may also be used for this purpose.
More details can be found on our Guidelines for authors page under the 'Copyright, reproduction and permissions' heading.
If you have any questions on either of these main topics then our list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) in conjunction with the IOP Ethical Policy might provide the answers you seek. Alternatively you are welcome to send your enquiry to the Permissions mailbox. Please provide as much detail as you can and we will endeavour to answer your questions.
