Help: Creating a Digital Object Identifier Link

A digital object identifier (DOI) can be used to cite and link to electronic documents. A DOI is guaranteed never to change, so you can use it to link permanently to electronic documents.

You can save the link easily by using the link menu available from your browser (using the right click if you use a mouse). Use the saved link to return to the document at a later date or in your references and citations.

The DOI scheme is administered by the International DOI Foundation. Many of the world's leading publishers have come together to build a DOI-based document linking scheme known as CrossRef.

To find a document using a DOI

  1. Enter http://dx.doi.org/<enter the entire DOI here> into your browser
    (e.g. http://dx.doi.org/10.1088/0305-4470/33/18/308 )
  2. OR go to http://dx.doi.org and then enter the entire DOI citation in the text box provided, and then click Go.

The document that matches the DOI citation will display in your browser window.
