Help: Open Archives Initiative
The Open Archives Initiative (OAI) "develops and promotes interoperability standards that aim to facilitate the efficient dissemination of content". The key standard promoted by the initiative focuses on content providers making metadata records available in a common format - the Dublin Core Element Set.
IOP have adopted this standard, and metadata records for article abstracts in our Electronic Journals service are now available in this format. IOP metadata currently adheres to version 2 of the OAI Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH). Metadata records can be "harvested" from our server on request.
Organizations participating in the initiative include the e-print community, publishers and A & I service providers. It may also be of interest to institutions that subscribe to our journals and wish to harvest IOP abstract data with a view to loading it locally and/or adding elements of it to their OPACs.
If you are interested in harvesting our OAI metadata, please contact custserv@iop.org.
